About Mundesley Youth and Community

"Mundesley Youth and Community" was formed by volunteers in October 2009 following discussions with a group of young people who expressed their needs and ideas for new community facilities and activities for young people.

Working with the Parish Council the group has good representatives including Young people, Residents, Police, Council, Businesses, Voluntary Groups and Parish Councillors and meets on a regular basis.

By listening to the needs of the local community we plan to build fantastic new facilities on disused land in the centre of the village. We have already received funding to re-develop our existing play area and are now fundraising to build a Multi Use Games Area with a cover to enable the community to use it in all weather, a Skate Park and Community Centre including access to computers.

As well as facilities we need money to support the activities providing youth engagement activities for the young, physical and social activities for the older community and a wide range of sports, music and dance activities that the whole community can access.

To build all the new facilities we need nearly half a million pounds so we are busy fundraising, gaining sponsorship and applying for grants to make this happen.

Aims Through the facility development and the projects we want to:

  • Increase physical activity through sport and recreation provision
  • Increase health through greater awareness of leading a healthy safe lifestyle
  • Decrease anti social behaviour through positive youth provision
  • Increase cohesion of the local community

Difference it will make For Children and young people the impact will be huge, a safe place to play, a constructive area where they will be supported and encouraged to earn new skills and a place which they can feel that they have contributed to and have ownership of.

For Parents they will have a local facility that is affordable, accessible without travel, can improve the health of their children's lives and a place they can play safely as a family.

For Adults the facility will mean access to a quality facility that they cna book for community groups, a place to get physically active, learn new skills or become a volunteer and support new activities.

For Older People it will mean that they will be able to access new activities that will help increase their mobility, health, self esteem or learn new computer skills that they would not have the opportunity to do previously.

Overall this will impact on the whole community brining the community together.

Community Consultation is an essential part to the development pf sustainable facilities, projects and activities. Therefore we regularly consult with young people through our Youth Forum, our schools through assemblies, newsletter and questionnaires.

We also consult with our residents through consultation events and invite small target groups to discuss their needs and concerns regarding the impact of building development within the surrounding area. Further consultation will continue as projects progress but please feel free to contact us if you wish to add your views, ideas or concerns regarding the proposed projects.
